The list of things that mobile phones can do continues to grow, and now mobile technology is expanding to allow you to control even home appliances from virtually anywhere. Here is a brief look at the world of app controlled appliances.
Air conditioner
You can use your mobile phone to control and monitor your air conditioner from virtually anywhere. Multiple household members can set a preferred temperature and fan speed for when they are at home. You can set new schedules from anywhere, and you always have the option to turn your air conditioner on or off with your connected device. Of course, this convenience can also be part of a larger smart home system, which allows you to control heating, lighting, and home security as well.
Dishwasher
App connected dishwashers now allow you to see how much time is left in a dishwashing cycle. The app can also alert you when your dishwasher needs maintenance is or performing at less than its best. Some dishwashers now also feature Amazon Dash replenishment, allowing your dishwasher to detect when dish detergent is running out and automatically order more to be sent to your home. (That, of course, is a feature that you don’t need a connected mobile phone for.)

Yep—your oven and stove can be controlled with your phone as well. You can’t use your mobile phone to take things into and out of the oven, of course, but you can use it to preheat your oven while at the grocery store, change the oven’s temperature from work, set timer alerts when you are baking or roasting, and more.
Refrigerator
WiFi connected refrigerators do more than you might expect. From your phone, you can tell your refrigerator to make an extra batch of ice, adjust the internal temperature, schedule hot water for your morning coffee, or check on the status of the water filter. Your phone can also give you alerts when internal temperature is off, the water filter needs to be replaced, the icemaker is empty, etc.
Washer and dryer
Laundry also becomes easier when you have a WiFi connected washer and dryer. Using your phone, you can monitor cycle status, see when laundry will be done, get an alert when a cycle has finished, extend the wash or dry cycle, and more. Some washers also feature Amazon Dash replenishment, which means that your washer can detect when detergent or fabric softener is running out and automatically order more to be sent to your home. (Again, that, of course, is a feature that you don’t need a connected mobile phone for.)
