In the past few articles, we’ve talked about water damage, charging, and sluggish cell phones. This week we conclude our three part series with a look at our fourth common cell phone problem.
Problem #4: Your Phone Won’t Turn On
If your phone refuses to turn on and you can’t figure out why, there are a few simple steps that can usually get it to work.
The first is to reboot your phone. Sometimes a phone will simply freeze and need to be restarted. You can reboot your phone by holding down the power button (or the “on” button) for 5 seconds. If the “on” button does not work, try holding the “off” button for an additional 5 seconds. Most phones will reboot through one of these two buttons.
If your phone still refuses to turn on, the next step is to check your battery. It’s possible that your battery has simply run out of power and needs to be recharged. Plug your phone into its charger and wait a few moments to see if your phone reacts. If your phone gives signs of life, leave the phone on the charger until the battery is completely charged before trying to use it again.
If neither of these actions result in your phone turning back on, there are usually two other sources of your problem. The first is that you battery is completely dead. At this point, you simply need to replace the battery and your phone should work without any further issues. However, it could also be possible that your phone is simply worn out. If you’ve been using the same phone for years on end – or can’t even remember what year it was manufactured – it may simply be time to trade in for a newer model. If you are unsure as to which problem is facing your cell phone, take it to your nearest cell phone repair shop. They will be able to help ascertain the problem.
